With two joint venture partners, Perdaman Global Services has established a skills testing and training centre in Manila aimed at international businesses that recruit skilled labour from the Philippines.
Not deterred by the current global economic downturn, Perdaman Global Services invested in the centre after identifying the need for a ‘one stop’ location to interview and skills test candidates when it was recruiting a large pool of skilled workers for an Australian project.
While recruiting skilled labour in the Philippines is a regular activity for Perdaman Global Services and many other businesses, there was no single venue that could accommodate all aspects of a recruitment campaign.
As part of our thorough approach to overseas recruitment, we conduct interviews for roles, to ensure their skills match their claims and have the required English proficiency.
Taking it a step further, we also wanted a venue where we could provide any additional training that was required and deliver briefings, such as safety inductions, to successful candidates before they relocate. This way recruits will be ‘work ready’ when they arrive at their work site.
To create a centre that could accommodate all these needs, Perdaman Global Services partnered with Darwin-based training company, Industries Services Training (IST) and a Manila-based manning agency to establish the IIM skills testing and training centre that is able to cater for all steps of recruitment including inductions and language testing to meet visa requirements.
The centre comprises various-sized rooms totalling 440 sqm and external areas and workshops to skills test candidates in heavy and light engineering trades such as scaffolding, formwork carpentry and mechanical fitting. A commercial kitchen is also available to test and train applicants for jobs in the hospitality industry.
The centre can be used only to conduct interviews, or for the full range of services available. Users of the centre can provide their own trainers, or these can be organised to suit the testing/training required.
Onsite accommodation and catering is available for local applicants to use during the selection process.
