As of January 2015, all 457 Visa holders will be required to contribute to the cost of educating their children in public schools.
The fee will be $4,000 per family, regardless of the number of children from that same family. This fee covers just a fraction of the average cost of educating a student in a public school which currently stands at $14,833 for public primary school and $19,363 for public secondary school.
The fee will be collected by the State Government agency responsible for overseas fee-paying students attending Western Australian public schools, Education and Training International.
Western Australian Government has, to date, provided free public education to dependents of 457 visa holders although the conditions of this visa give no such entitlement.
