On 21 September 2015, the new Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa arrangement between Australia and the People’s Republic of China commenced, enabling eligible young Chinese nationals to apply for a Work and Holiday visa for Australia.
The online system to book an appointment to submit a Work and Holiday visa was opened on the morning of 21 September 2015 with the first round of 1500 appointments already filled.
Following the signing of the China Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA), these arrangements took effect which will complement the existing major inbound Chinese tourism market which was reported to bring more than $7 billion in contribution to the Australian economy.
This arrangement will allow up to 5000 young Chinese people with tertiary education and English skills to experience a working holiday in Australia.
The Work and Holiday visa will provide a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity for Chinese participants. It is also an opportunity for cultural exchange and building closer cultural ties between China and Australia.
The commencement date for each round will be advertised through social media channels and on the Australia Embassy China website.
The Work and Holiday (Temporary) visa (subclass 462) is for young people who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to a year. It is a temporary visa that encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between Australia and eligible countries.
