Some Australian States and Territories have been granted allocation places for the Business Innovation & Investment (188 & 132) and 491 and 190 Visa Programs. The allocations are limited and only cover the period from now until the Federal Budget is known in October 2020.
Under the 491 and 190 visa programs, only those working in critical sectors can be nominated.
Nominees will be selected from those providing critical or specialist medical services including air ambulance, medical evacuations and delivering medical supplies; those with skills required to maintain the supply of essential goods and services (such as in medical technology, critical infrastructure, telecommunications, engineering and mining, supply chain logistics, agricultural technology, food production, and the maritime industry); and those delivering services in sectors critical to Australia’s economic recovery (such as financial technology, large scale manufacturing, film and television production and emerging technology), where no Australian worker is available.
State updates:
- Western Australia has started taking Nomination applications for subclasses 188 and 132 Nominations. Invitations for State nomination for the 190 and 491 visas are suspended.
- Tasmania will only be receiving applications for subclasses 188 and 132 Nominations, from very high calibre applicants (i.e., those proposing investment or with skills that will make a substantial contribution to Tasmania’s economy).
Applicants in critical roles may be nominated for the subclasses 190 and 491 visas.
- ACT have published their own Critical Skills List for the 190 and 491 visa programs and have reopened for Canberra residents only.
- South Australia is accepting nomination applications for subclasses 190 and 491 visas. Applicants in critical roles are prioritised.
Other States/Territories are still determining how they will work with their respective allocations and should provide further information soon.
